# BIOS Settings

**Private Solutions Firmware** • quick BIOS troubleshooting for the main PC. Most setups do not need BIOS changes. If everything works, leave it alone.

### Start here

Check that the card is seated, powered, and connected with the right data cable. Then confirm the supplied drivers and run the speed test. Only use BIOS changes as a troubleshooting step.

### Optional checks (main PC only)

| Setting                      | What to try                                                                                                                                |
| ---------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Fast Boot** | Temporarily turn BIOS Fast Boot off if the card is not initializing. This is different from Windows Fast Startup. |
| **ASPM / PCIe power saving** | If support asks, test with this off. It may increase power use. |
| **DMA slot link speed** | Gen 1 can help diagnose some card or board combinations. It lowers bandwidth, so use it only when your card or support guide calls for it. |
| **VT-d / IOMMU** | Keep enabled by default. Turning it off reduces DMA protection; change it only with board-specific support instructions. |
| **VT-x / SVM** | Keep the default. These control CPU virtualization and are separate from VT-d / IOMMU. |

### Two settings worth double-checking

* Only adjust the DMA card slot. Leave the graphics card slot on Auto. PCIe speed settings are usually under Advanced or PCI Express Configuration; menus vary by motherboard.
* Secure Boot, Core Isolation, and Kernel DMA Protection should stay on where supported.
* The fuser does not need a motherboard BIOS change.

### Change one thing at a time

Take a photo of the original settings, keep your device-encryption recovery key handy, save and restart, then test again. If it gets worse, restore the original value.

**Still stuck?** [Open a Private Solutions ticket](https://discord.gg/XFEkf2kV26) with your motherboard model, BIOS version, DMA card, firmware, Windows version, and the exact error. We can point you to the right menu without guesswork.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://guides.privatesolution.org/dma-card-setup/bios-settings.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
