# DMA Troubleshooting

Work through the simple checks first. Change one thing at a time, note what happened, and stop if a change makes the system less stable. Keep Secure Boot, Core Isolation, and Kernel DMA Protection enabled unless a qualified support technician gives you model-specific advice.

### Start with the basics

1. Write down the exact error and when it appears. Note the card model, firmware, motherboard, Windows version, and what changed recently.
2. Power down before reseating a card or changing internal cabling. Confirm the card is fully seated in the intended PCIe slot and that any required power connection is present.
3. Check the link cable and USB connection. Confirm cables are connected to the labeled ports, are fully seated, and are data-capable. Try one known-good cable or port at a time.
4. Restart the PC and confirm the expected device appears in Windows Device Manager. Use only the drivers supplied for your product/firmware.
5. Run the [Private Solutions DMA speed test guide](https://guides.privatesolution.org/dma-card-setup/speedtest) and record the results.

### Common symptoms

* **Device not detected:** power off, check PCIe seating and power, then verify the connection and supplied driver.
* **Zero or inconsistent speed-test results:** recheck the cable type, both ends, selected ports, and host connection. Repeat the test after a clean restart.
* **Freezes, restarts, or a blue screen:** note the stop code and recent changes. Restore any BIOS setting you changed, then consult the [BIOS Settings guide](https://guides.privatesolution.org/dma-card-setup/bios-settings). Do not randomly disable security features.
* **Intermittent disconnects:** inspect cable strain, USB ports, power, and system event logs. Avoid hubs while isolating a connection issue.

### Send support a useful report

If you are still stuck, [open a Private Solutions ticket](https://discord.gg/XFEkf2kV26). Include the exact card/firmware, motherboard and CPU, Windows version, a photo or sketch of the cable layout, the full error text, and the steps you already tried. Never include passwords, recovery keys, or private account tokens.

See [current DMA hardware options](https://privatesolution.org/products/#hardware-dma) for product-specific details.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://guides.privatesolution.org/dma-card-setup/dma-troubleshooting.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
