# RDMA Setup Guide

Twenty minutes, most of it waiting for downloads.

## Before you start

* [Requirements](/rdma-setup/rdma-requirements.md) are met (RTL8125 adapter, two PCs, same network)
* A Discord ticket open with us

## Steps

1. **Check the adapter.** Follow [RDMA Requirements](/rdma-setup/rdma-requirements.md) to confirm your main PC has the RTL8125. Not sure? Send a screenshot in your ticket.
2. **Subscribe to your plan.** Pay the way that suits you — see [Payment Methods](/hardware/payment-methods.md).
3. **Download the helper** on the **main PC**. We send the link in your ticket.
4. **Run the helper** and follow the steps on screen. It prepares the main PC's network adapter.
5. **Download the software** on the **2nd PC** and run it.
6. **Enter your license** in the software when it asks.
7. **Wait for the connection test to pass.** The software checks that both PCs can talk to each other.

That is it. From here, every session is: run the software on the 2nd PC, start your game on the main PC.

## If the connection test fails

In order of what usually fixes it:

1. Make sure **both PCs are on the same network** (same router name).
2. Use a **wired cable** on the main PC if you were on Wi-Fi.
3. Restart both PCs and run the test again.
4. Still failing? Open your ticket — a real person will debug it with you.

## Common questions

**Can the 2nd PC be a laptop?** Yes. Any Windows 10/11 computer works.

**Does Wi-Fi work for the main PC?** The RTL8125 is a wired adapter, so the main PC uses a cable. The 2nd PC can be on Wi-Fi.

**Do I install anything on the main PC permanently?** Only the small helper from step 3. It stays out of the way.

Test passing? You are done. Ask in your ticket for the first-run walkthrough.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://guides.privatesolution.org/rdma-setup/rdma-setup-guide.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
